Announcements for Week of September 20th

Staff Development Day - Sept 20

8:30-11:30 Mandatory Code of Ethics presentation with Troy Hastings @ GMS Auditorium

Things to get done today:

1. Google Site for Possibility of Virtual Instruction

Each Homeroom Teacher must have a separate site.  Before you leave school today link your site to this Google Doc highlighting your name, and adding the link to your site.

Google Site Must-Haves: (Homeroom Teachers)

Prominently Displayed:

  • Your Class’ Schedule (Not what you teach, but where your homeroom should “go” if you departmentalize)
  • The links to your Google Meets.  Be sure to include links to specials.  Special area teachers will need to either send you the link or come to you and link your text to their classroom.  You and the special area teachers can get together to figure out how to get the link and how it will be displayed.
  • An easy-to-use, Simple Format (Keep the Child’s/Caregiver's perspective in mind)
Prominently, but not Cluttered with the info above
  • How caregivers can get help during the day
  • How and when you can and CAN NOT be reached
  • Expectations for attendance if Google Meets cannot be accessed during the day
  • Directions on how to access the content of the meets later
  • Directions on how work will be collected.
  • What else???

Special Education and Intervention Teachers - By the end of the day, be sure you get me a copy of your personal schedule for a virtual day (assuming the whole school is virtual) This will serve as a framework we can use to figure out how you will co-teach and/or provide services in person and virtually in the event one class or grade is put on virtual instruction.  Get with the Homeroom teachers that are in your students' classes to add links to Google Meets to their websites or figure out how that will work.

2.  Link your Google classroom to the Google Site Doc

3.  Provide Feedback Please team up, K-1, 2-3, 4-5.  Let the other grade level know when your site is ready.  Review the website from that other teacher.  Let's be supportive colleagues.  Please give each other honest feedback. Have each others' backs and let them know if you think a parent will find something confusing or if something is missing.  Telling someone his/her site is fine when something is confusing or missing not is NOT being nice.  Be brave and give them honest feedback.

Specials TeachersGet together to formalize/figure out and then write out the touch typing plan--who is teaching which grades when and get that to me. (just email/share a word doc with me)

NEXT STEPs:

1.  Practice using the Google Meets with your students and teach them to get on your Google Site. You could team up with your grade level partner teacher if you like.  (Switch kids and teach them from next door!) Before fall break, choose several times to practice what learning would look like if you were to go virtual.  Help your students to get a feel for it and learn how to get on and trouble-shoot.  Use the info you get from your virtual practice to develop some hints or even a guide to send home to parents.

2.  Prepare baggies or envelopes with any materials that the students will need to have at home to complete work during a virtual day.  Be sure the material is clearly marked with its purpose.  Send these home.

3.  We may plan on an event where we invite families in to practice.

3.  What else??
