As we enter into our first full week, I want to remind you again to post a picture or word or phrase on our vision board. We need to build together a vision for what we want to create here no matter if we are virtual, in-person, or a blend of the two. If we have a clear vision for what we are working toward, when we hit bumps in the road we can be motivated by where we are headed. When the tech doesn't work right, or we get irritated by something that doesn't go the way we had planned, we won't get caught up all the problems--we will be reminded that we are working toward something much bigger. While we talked about the importance of creating a shared vision on opening day, I didn't really address much about the board itself...
Why a vision board?
According to Elizabeth Rider's article in The Reason Vision Boards Work and How to Make One the answer is:What should we put on our vision board?
...we know that visualization works. Olympic athletes have been using it for decades to improve performance, and Psychology Today reported that the brain patterns activated when a weightlifter lifts heavy weights are also similarly activated when the lifter just imagined (visualized) lifting weights.
So, what's the big secret to creating a vision board that works? It's simple: Your vision board should focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want.
Where are we going?
What do we want to achieve?
What will be our legacy?
What will make us go the extra mile?
What does it look like?
What will be our impact?
What is so beautiful that we will not stop until we get there?
