Instructional Focus - Review
This week, I introduced a list of Lookfors for you to go by when planning your modeled and small group lessons here:
As I began live walkthroughs this week, it became apparent real quick that it was really difficult to see even 1-2 of the Lookfors in just 5-10 minutes. So I shared this other list so that you knew what I would be looking for in those quick snapshots: Walkthrough list
These are nothing to stress about, I just know when I was teaching I wanted to know what observers were looking for.
When Planning Keep it Simple--Focus on your Learning Target...
It's not fair for us as teachers to receive feedback when we don't even know what to shoot for. That's kind of like our kids, isn't it? They need to know the learning target (I can statement) so that they know what they are shooting for--even the littlest ones. Research proves that this works!
Learning intentions (targets) and success criteria contribute to teacher clarity
defined as “a measure of the clarity of communication between
teachers and students - in both directions”.
Effect size for teacher clarity= 0.75
Simply put: EVERY LESSON should start with you telling your students the learning target--You could do this by saying something like, "by the end of this lesson you will be able to say this...I CAN...."
Three of the Lookfors on the Taped Lesson Lookfor list reference the learning target!
Check out the way that Ms. Brumfield does it here:
That's good stuff, y'all!
For more good stuff, check out the Interactive Distance Learning Ninjas page. You can find it on a Tab at the top of the Blog.
This week, I'm featuring some teachers who are knocking it out of the park with their use of tech tools to make their recorded lessons engaging! Check it out!
