Clarity

So, it has begun...I got my first email congratulating us and asking about the secret to our success!!!  How about that?  I  am just so so so proud of all the hard work that you and the students do everyday.  When I go in your classrooms and I am always so impressed by so many things, but I'd like to focus this post on how well you match your assessments and learning activities to your learning targets.  I think this is a HUGE reason why our students have such high achievement.  The work our students are expected to do matches what is expected of them in the content standards in both content and rigor.

Some educational researchers define this as CLARITY.  I am participating in a statewide book study right now on clarity for learning and after seeing the first introductory email am already shouting, "Amen, sister!"  Check it out here... it's only like 13 minutes long.  I'm pretty pumped about my fall reading...

You want to see some Panther Professionals who have Clarity for Learning regarding their content???

How about how Ms. Hay breaks down her standard and connects cause and effect and connects this text structure to RL 2.5!

ORRRR....How Ms. Barker uses technology for publishing works related to her standard???

How cool is this???

And what about how Ms. Gentry breaks the standard down and thinks through the specific scaffolding that will be needed?

I believe there is no class you can take or book you can ready to develop this clarity around our standards.  You have to experience the standards through crafting and implementing assessments and finding activities congruent to those in order to develop clarity.  Check out some reading Ms. Brumfield has been doing related to this...

Mastery in teaching develops from experience with reflection.  That's what I take from this.  Our teachers are masters in the content.  I have no doubt.  You are encouraging and loving and supportive with our sweet babies, but you EXPECT GREAT THINGS within the content you are masters of and that's a big reason why we are #74 in the state.  PLE ROCKS!!!
